We are deeply grateful to our two major donors: The community-minded Village Bank that contributed our first major โAngel levelโ gift, and The Northland Investment Corporation that generously matched that outstanding gift. We have also received generous donations from Newton-Wellesley Hospital; and Preferred Realty Property Management, the management company of the Strong Building in Waban Square; the Union Church; and Pine Straw, a Waban Square business. Six benches at $1000 each have been sold, leaving 2 benches unclaimed.
Recently, the Board conducted in-depth vetting of bids from four landscaping contractors, then selected the best one to execute the plan. The landscape design firm with whom we will be working is Landscape Design Associates, whose principal is James Egan. We are starting with Phase One, which includes the placement of trees and grading. Our goal for implementation funding is $100,000, We also plan to establish a Maintenance Fund to cover future repairs and landscape costs to preserve the improvements to the site.
As of April 16th, we have raised over $40,000, with an additional pledge from Hammond and Coldwell Banker; and a pledge to pay for the cost of the irrigation system by the Waban Improvement Society.
The City has begun the first steps to prepare the site for construction. Stay tuned for a formal ground-breaking ceremony coming soon. Our Board is also planning a big Community event in September after Phase One to bring residents together outdoors for a festive and fun fall afternoon.
